Claude Duet works while you're away, Gemini gets small-business tools, GPT-6.1 Terra
Anthropic opened a waitlist for Claude Duet, an assistant that watches your apps and handles tasks with your approval, and Gemini added a hub for running a small business. ChatGPT got a new model for Work and Codex plus locked chats, and Google Docs and Meet added voice writing and translation in 63 languages.
Claude Duet: an assistant that keeps working when you're away
Claude Duet is a new app where Claude works ahead of you. It sends a morning brief from your connected apps, checks them every few hours and messages you only when something needs attention, and handles tasks you give it. It asks you before it acts on your behalf.
Why it matters: Anthropic's examples fit a small business: finding unpaid invoices in QuickBooks or Stripe and drafting reminders, catching up on missed Gmail and Slack messages, scheduling meetings, and drafting HubSpot follow-ups. Anthropic says it can still misread a thread or misjudge what's urgent, so keep checking what it drafts.
Research preview by waitlist, starting with Pro and Max subscribers in the US. Included in those plans with the same usage limits. Apps for iOS and Android, plus claude.ai.

The Gemini app now has a business page for building your brand, looking at your finances and reviewing customer insights. It connects to Google Business Profile, Google Ads and Workspace, and to apps like Canva, Shopify, Wix and Xero. You can upload your website, brand kit, fonts or colors, and Gemini keeps that style in the visuals it makes.
Why it matters: Social posts and ad images come out in your brand's look without re-explaining it every time. Gemini can also turn spreadsheets, receipts and purchase records into charts, so you can see where the money goes.
Google says it starts rolling out in the coming days, globally, for all Gemini app users.

OpenAI is rolling out a new model, GPT-6.1 Terra, in ChatGPT Work and Codex. OpenAI says it handles visual reasoning, computer use and writing. Pick it from the model list; your plan's usage limits don't change.
Why it matters: If you use ChatGPT Work for longer tasks, like drafting a report from your files, try the same task with Terra and compare. Some Plus and Pro users will see Terra as the new default in Work's Power presets.
Rolling out to Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans, in the Work and Codex experiences your plan, region and workspace settings allow.

You can now lock a chat so it disappears from your chat history, pinned chats and search. It opens only with your 4-digit account PIN or your device's own unlock, where supported. To lock one, open the chat's ••• menu and choose Lock chat.
Why it matters: Useful if someone else sometimes uses your computer or phone, or you share your screen with clients: a chat about pricing, a client's details or a personal matter stays out of sight. Your data and privacy settings stay the same.
Rolling out gradually to Free, Go, Plus and Pro users on the web, iOS and Android, and the new ChatGPT desktop app for Mac and Windows.

Gemini speech translation in Google Meet now covers 63 languages and detects the spoken language automatically. Each person turns it on for themselves from the toolbar, and can list languages they already understand so those aren't translated.
Why it matters: You can hold a call with a client or supplier who speaks another language, and each of you hears the other in your own language. Guests from outside your company can use it too when the organizer has an eligible plan.
Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Frontline Plus, Google AI Pro and Ultra, and some AI add-ons. Up to 90 minutes per meeting on base plans and Google AI Pro. Rolling out from Oct 22 (Rapid Release) and Nov 2 (Scheduled Release).

In the Google Docs app on your phone, Docs Live lets you talk through your ideas and turns them into a structured document. It can pull in context from your Gmail, Drive, Chat and the web, and it organizes rambling thoughts into a draft.
Why it matters: A customer pitch, an event plan or a project update can start as a voice note on your walk or in the car, and be a draft by the time you're back at your desk.
Available now in the Google Docs app on Android and iOS for Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Google AI Pro and Ultra, and some add-ons.

Before you hand your inbox to an assistant like Claude Duet, try the idea by hand. Copy a week of client emails or messages (remove passwords and card numbers) into ChatGPT or Claude, then paste this:
Below are messages from my clients over the past week. List every place where I promised something, someone is waiting for my answer, or a payment or decision is still open. For each one: who, what they're waiting for, and a 2-sentence reply I could send. Quote the line it comes from. If you're not sure something is still open, mark it [check] instead of guessing.
