Claude Duet is a version of Claude you message the way you'd message a person — by typing or by talking — and it actually goes and gets things done in your apps. It runs on its own computer in the cloud, so it keeps working after you close the app. It tells you when something needs you. And it's designed to ask before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything. It's a research preview from Anthropic, and I'll be honest: this is the one I've been waiting for.
What is Claude Duet, in plain English?
Here's the difference. With a regular chatbot, you do the running around: open the chat, ask, copy the answer, paste it into your email, go back. With Duet you send one message — "find the unpaid invoices and draft reminders" — and it goes into the right apps, does the work, and comes back with drafts waiting for your OK. Less "tool you use," more "assistant you have."
- It already knows you. Duet uses your Claude account, so the memory, skills and connectors you've already set up in Claude are there from your very first message. No starting from zero.
- It works while you don't. It has its own cloud computer, so a job keeps going after you put your phone down.
- It speaks up first. It flags what needs your input, sends updates during the day, and follows up on threads that went quiet.
- It asks before the big stuff. Sending, paying, signing and deleting all wait for your approval.
What can Claude Duet actually do?
A morning brief, every single morning
Every morning Duet goes through your email and calendar, flags what matters most, and may already start the first steps — like drafting replies for you to review. Imagine opening your phone to "here are the three things that need you today, and I've drafted the answers." That's the idea.
One main thread, plus channels for each topic
There's one main thread that picks up right where you left off. You can also open separate channels for different topics — one per client, one for the house, one for a launch — and they all share the same memory. Organized, without having to explain yourself twice.
Big jobs, delivered as real files
For larger work you describe the goal, and Duet picks the apps it needs and estimates the effort. The results come back as files you can edit — research briefs, financial models, slide decks, dashboards — and they show up in the Make tab.
A Tasks tab that keeps score
The Tasks tab shows everything in progress and everything waiting on you. Duet posts in the main thread when a task finishes or needs a decision. My favorite detail: it can suggest a task is done, but only you can mark it completed. You stay the boss.
Your apps — plus a browser of its own
Duet works through the apps you've connected in Claude, such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Docusign and Calendly, plus the Stripe connector for invoices. For websites that don't have a connector, it uses its own cloud browser. It also supports plugins — like the small business plugin — and can suggest ones that fit your work.
It can even shop for you (with your OK)
Inside Duet you can connect Link (Stripe's digital wallet) and Shop Pay (Shopify's wallet) to pay for purchases you approve. It asks before each purchase and uses a one-time card limited to that one purchase. Printer ink, reordered, without you opening a single website.
Things you can say to it
These three come straight from Anthropic's own examples — a great way to start:
Clear out the emails I don't need.
Check Stripe for unpaid invoices and draft reminders for me to approve.
Prepare a brief on the company I'm meeting tomorrow.
How do I get Claude Duet?
Right now it's a waitlist. Invitations go out in waves, so there's no guaranteed date — which is exactly why you want to be on it today.
Join the waitlist
Go to the Claude Duet product page and select Join the waitlist.
Enter your name and email
If you already use Claude, use the same email as your Claude account.
Choose your plan and your phone
Pick your plan and your phone type (iPhone or Android). There's an optional box to describe your work and what you'd hand off first. It's optional — I'd fill it in anyway. It takes a minute, and it's your chance to say how you'd actually use it.
Submit — and watch your inbox
Select Submit. You'll get an email when it's your turn.
Open the invitation on your phone
Open the invite on your phone and follow the iPhone or Android setup steps, using the Apple or Google account linked to your email.
Sign in and say hello
Open Claude Duet and sign in with your Claude account. It can take a few minutes after you accept before the app is available — so if it doesn't open right away, give it a moment.
Is Claude Duet safe to hand my email and money to?
This is the right question, and I like Anthropic's answers here:
- You approve every big action. Duet shows what it plans to do and waits before sending messages, making payments, signing documents or deleting anything. If you can't answer right away, it keeps working on other things and brings the request back later.
- It shows its sources. When it reports a number, it tells you which email, file or spreadsheet it came from.
- Some things are off-limits even if you say yes: trading securities, moving money between accounts, and accessing someone else's account.
- Your passwords stay out of the chat. When a site asks for a password, you type it into a separate form on your device that sends it straight to the browser.
- You hold the keys. You start each connection yourself and can disconnect any app at any time in Claude's settings. (Disconnecting stops future access; what it already remembers is kept.)
- It's careful with what it reads. Emails and web pages can contain sneaky instructions ("prompt injection"). Duet is designed to treat that content as information, not orders — but Anthropic is clear that no defense is perfect, which is why your approvals matter.
What Claude Duet can't do yet
It's a preview, so here's the honest list:
- You can't pick the model. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and sets its own effort level.
- You can't watch or take over its browser.
- It checks your accounts at set intervals, so something urgent may reach you a little late.
- It can't see all the projects or files on your computer, and it can read — but not edit — your work in Claude.
- No phone calls or texts. It can send emails from connected accounts, with your approval.
- Some connectors have limits (Slack is one), and Microsoft 365 isn't available yet.
- It can make mistakes. Read the drafts and approval requests before you confirm.
How much does Claude Duet cost?
During the preview it's included with Pro and Max at no extra charge. It draws from your five-hour and weekly limits at the same rate as a regular chat — and background work like the morning brief and check-ins counts too, so you may reach your limits sooner than usual.
10 ways I'd use Claude Duet in a small business
- 01
The coffee brief. Read the morning brief before anything else and answer one question: "What actually needs me today?"
- 02
The invoice chaser. "Check Stripe for unpaid invoices and draft polite reminders." You approve, it sends.
- 03
Meeting prep on autopilot. Before every call on your calendar, a short brief on the company and your past emails with them.
- 04
A channel per client. One channel for each client, all sharing the same memory — no more scrolling to find "that thing they said."
- 05
Friday inbox reset. "Clear out the emails I don't need" — and start Monday at zero.
- 06
Lead follow-ups. Ask it to find leads in HubSpot that went quiet and draft a follow-up for each one.
- 07
Contracts without the chase. Get a Docusign agreement ready — it waits for your approval before anything is signed.
- 08
Month-end check. "What's still open in QuickBooks this month?" — with the source of every number.
- 09
From research to slides. Hand it a goal ("compare three suppliers") and get a brief or a deck back in the Make tab.
- 10
The boring errands. Reorder supplies with Link or Shop Pay — one approval, one single-use card.
How to get the most out of your first week
- Set up Claude first. Duet inherits your memory, skills and connectors from your Claude account, so connect Gmail and Calendar and tidy your memory before your invite arrives.
- Start with read-and-draft jobs. Briefs, summaries and drafts first. Let it earn your trust before it sends anything.
- Actually read the approval requests. That's your safety net — don't tap "yes" on autopilot.
- Give each topic its own channel. Your main thread stays clean, and the memory is shared anyway.
- Keep an eye on your usage. The morning brief and check-ins use your limits too. Use the one-time reset before November 30.
- Tell it when something goes wrong. Just say it in plain language, and Duet passes your feedback to the team.
What's coming next for Claude Duet?
Anthropic says Team and Enterprise plans are planned for later. Everything else in this section is my personal wish list, not a promise: availability outside the US (my Hebrew-speaking readers are waiting!), Microsoft 365, and a way to watch its browser while it works. I'll update this guide the moment any of it changes.

Questions, answered
What is Claude Duet?
Claude Duet is a research preview from Anthropic: a version of Claude you message like a person, by typing or speaking. It works in the apps you've connected, runs on its own cloud computer so it keeps working after you close the app, tells you when something needs your input, and is designed to ask before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything.
Who can get Claude Duet?
During the research preview, Claude Duet is for Pro and Max subscribers in the US, on iPhone and Android. Access is through a waitlist with invitations sent in waves. It isn't available on Team or Enterprise plans yet, though Anthropic plans to add them later.
How much does Claude Duet cost?
It's included with Claude Pro and Max at no extra charge during the preview. It uses your five-hour and weekly usage limits at the same rate as chat, and background work like the morning brief also counts. Once admitted, you get one full reset of both limits, available until November 30, 2026.
Which apps does Claude Duet work with?
It uses the connectors you've set up in Claude, such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Docusign and Calendly, plus the Stripe connector. For websites without a connector it uses its own cloud browser. Link by Stripe and Shop Pay can be connected inside Duet for purchases you approve. Microsoft 365 isn't available yet.
Can Claude Duet send emails or spend money on its own?
It's designed not to. It shows what it plans to do and waits for your approval before sending messages, making payments, signing documents or deleting anything. Each approved purchase uses a one-time card limited to that purchase, and some actions — trading securities, moving money between accounts, accessing someone else's account — are prohibited even with approval.
Is Claude Duet available in Israel or outside the US?
Not yet. During the research preview Claude Duet is available in the US only.
What's the difference between Claude Duet and Claude Cowork?
Cowork works on your computer, with your files, from the Claude desktop app. Duet lives on your phone and runs on its own cloud computer, so it keeps working after you close the app, sends you a morning brief, and checks in during the day. Duet can read your work in Claude but not edit it, and it can't see all the files on your computer.
